Charges For Electricity Meters
The Federal Government of Nigeria has made it clear that no one should be charged for electricity meter installation anymore.
On Thursday, January 23, 2026, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu gave a strong warning during an inspection of new smart meters in Lagos.
He said electricity distribution companies (DisCos) and their installers are now banned from collecting any money from customers for meters. Anyone caught demanding payment will face prosecution.
