Norway is currently in the news for Crown Princess Mette-Marit, 52. Her mother suffers from a serious lung disease called pulmonary fibrosis, and her condition has been worsening, the palace has announced. Doctors have said a lung transplant may be needed soon and that preparations are being made to facilitate the procedure when the time comes.

The princess announced her diagnosis in 2018 and has been forced to reduce her public appearances and take sick leave. She also stepped down from her duties in October due to health reasons. The palace said no date had been set for her to be placed on the lung transplant waiting list, but tests in the autumn showed a significant deterioration in her health. She will continue to work as long as she is healthy.

But her health is not the only thing that has made headlines. Her son, Marius Borg Hoivu, 28, has been charged with aggravated sexual assault in the cases of four women. The defendant has denied the charges, but his trial is set to begin in February and he could face up to 10 years in prison. This has increased the focus on the royal family as people eagerly await more information about the princess's health and her son's case.
