According to the report, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is advocating for the authorization of nitrogen hypoxia as a new execution method in the state of Ohio.
The report also stated that Yost is supporting House Bill 36, which proposes adding nitrogen hypoxia—death by inert gas asphyxiation—to Ohio's execution options. Currently, lethal injection is the only authorized method in Ohio. However, Yost noted that pharmaceutical companies' refusal to supply the necessary drugs has effectively halted executions.
In addition, nine states permit lethal gas executions, with five specifically allowing nitrogen hypoxia. Ohio has not conducted an execution since July 2018.
