According to the report, a massive fire at a poultry farm in southwestern Poland killed more than 100,000 chickens, local authorities said Friday.

The report also said that the blaze broke out around 6 p.m. local time Thursday in a building housing thousands of hens in the village of Falkowice, TVP World reported, citing emergency services.

Police said around 130,000 hens were kept in the facility, while local media, citing a fire department spokesperson, reported that the number could be as high as 150,000. Some estimates suggested the figure might reach 400,000.No human casualties were reported.

The report added that a total of 45 fire units from three counties participated in extinguishing the blaze, according to police and fire department statements, which noted that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Poultry farming is a key part of Poland's agricultural sector. According to recent EU data, the country is the bloc's second-largest exporter of eggs.

It was not mentioned in the report the owner of the poultry. It could be owned by a private person. The owner might be among a large producer and supplier of chicken and eggs in their country and abroad.

It was a big loss for Poland, affecting its national economy. Poultry raising is one important means of securing economic sustainability. The number of chickens killed strained Poland's economic resources.

I can only imagine what the owners of the chickens would be going through right now. That's a huge loss.
