According to the report, authorities have arrested a suspect and seized suspected shabu with an estimated street value of PHP3.4 million during an anti-drug operation here Thursday night, an official said.

In a report on Friday, Col. Fidel Fortaleza Jr., director of the Zamboanga City Police, identified the arrested suspect as alias Darwin, 43, a motor taxi driver and a resident of Barangay Tulungatung.

The report also stated that Fortaleza said Darwin, a new high-value individual, was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Sun Flower Lane, Barangay Canelar, at about 9:16 p.m. The suspect was arrested after he sold a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover policeman. Seized from the suspect were about 500 grams of suspected shabu, the buy-bust money, a motorcycle, and a sling bag.

In addition to the report, the suspect was detained at the Zamboanga City Police Station 11 in preparation for the filing of charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The anti-drug operation was launched by the police with the support of military intelligence operatives.

The suspect was arrested several hours after the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency led Thursday’s incineration of PHP1.1 billion worth of illegal drugs in this city.

The illegal drugs were seized during various anti-drug operations in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

I believe the efforts of the authorities in Zamboanga to combat drug trafficking are truly necessary and must continue with determination. Personally, I believe that drugs destroy lives and communities, and actions like these are crucial to reducing their impact. The capture of a suspected high-value individual trafficking nearly 500 grams of shabu, with such a high market value, demonstrates that law enforcement is taking its responsibility to maintain public safety seriously. However, I also believe that simply arresting traffickers is not enough; it is important to accompany this with prevention and rehabilitation programs for those already trapped in the cycle of addiction. The fight against drugs is complex and requires a comprehensive approach, but I cannot deny that every successful operation, like this one, represents a step in the right direction to protect the community and reduce crime.

Drug trafficking is also a serious issue in the Philippines. The authorities are always on red alert. And through the help of INTERPOL, the authorities get information about the incoming traffickers from other countries who may enter the PH embassy in the NAIIA.
