Parents with no income have to be supported by their children financially. It becomes a very pathetic situation when the children are not well off and are themselves hard pressed, living their lives from hand to mouth. I have seen many such cases in India, especially in the poorer section.

Not just in India but I guess it happens everywhere. The children won't be able to do much since they are also struggling. Which is why it is the prayer of every parent that their kids do well financially.

That is correct. If parents are still able to work, they should not depend completely on their children for support. Children should not feel pressured to help their parents, especially if they are also facing financial problems. In developing countries, the situation is almost the same, often parents work hard when they are young and pay for their children's college fees, even many parents mortgage their houses, sell their cars, etc. so that when they are old they do not have valuable property, so I think it is natural for children to give a little to their parents.

Always parents pray their children earn well but that doesn't happen. My brother had to support my mother and my husband and his brothers and sisters had to support my mother-in-law as they had no pension or savings. That way I am much lucky.

Where children earn sufficient it's possible for them to support their parents but people like daily wagers can't support their parents in India as they don't earn that much.

It's the same thing in India. Earlier the situation was different. Inflation was not that high years back and people easily supported their parents along with their families.
