According to the latest report, the Philippines' Navy is holding drills around Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea. The Navy has described the drill as a two-day long "routine unilateral exercise". It includes Antonio Luna frigate and two other patrol ships operating in the Philippines' exclusive economic zone.
The report said that the drills are being conducted to assert Manila's rights over the contested waters of the South China Sea. They coincide with the continued radio challenges by the Philippine coast guard to the presence at the shoal of China's largest coast guard vessel termed 'monster ship' which it says is illegally patrolling in Manila's EEZ.
The report stated that if China is genuinely committed to deescalating tensions and sincerely seeks to foster mutual trust and cooperation between our nations, the Chinese government must respect the Philippines' sovereign rights in our EEZ," the coast guard said in a statement late on Thursday.
That is right, China must respect the rights of the Philippines' sovereign rights in our EEZ. China's aggression may lead to a war. The Chinese government must emphasize to those Chinese patrolling near the West Philippine Sea to respect the rights of the Filipino fishermen who want to fish near the disputed Shoal.
