According to the report, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Monday assured there was no ash fall or indication of magma movement following Kanlaon Volcano’s brief ash emission on Sunday.
The report also stated that the 18-minute activity produced a 500-meter-high plume but did not cause ash fall in nearby areas, Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol said during the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing.
In addition to the report, the volcano was still under Alert Level 2 (moderate level of unrest), which means phreatic or steam-driven eruptions are possible. Bacolcol reminded the public to refrain from entering the four-kilometer permanent danger zone of the volcano.
Volcano information should only be sourced from Phivolcs and local government units, Bacolcol said.
