According to the report, a commercial flight had experienced an "aircraft-related issue" and blocked the Busuanga Airport runway, resulting in the disruption of 11 flights on Friday, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said.
According to CAAP, PAL Express flight GAP 2961 from Manila landed at Busuanga Airport at 7:47 a.m., but was unable to vacate the runway due to a technical issue. Without citing specific flight details, the CAAP said the incident caused the cancellation of nine flights, and the delay and diversion of two others.
In a separate advisory, flag carrier Philippines Airlines said three of its flights were canceled due to the incident.
The report also said that the canceled flights were PR 2962 Busuanga-Manila, and PR 2963/2964 Manila-Busuanga-Manila. CAAP said that in coordination with PAL Express and the Philippine Air Force, they are already working to remove the aircraft from the runway.
In addition to the report, the airport management was told to expedite the clearing process and work closely with airlines to provide passenger assistance and necessary flight adjustments.
"We are taking all necessary measures to ensure the runway is cleared safely and that normal operations can resume without delay," CAAP Director General Raul Del Rosario said in a statement.
