The plastic duck museum in Point Roberts, Iowa, has decided to move to British Columbia. Starting next month, the ducks will be on display at the Tsawwassen Mills Shopping Centre.

Owners Neil and Krystal King say the US location failed to thrive due to declining tourism and customs duties.

The new sanctuary is just 15 minutes from Point Roberts, a small US territory with a population of about 1,000 and is isolated by the ocean.

The museum displays about 30 plastic ducks with different histories and cultures. The oldest duck is a wheeled pull-along toy from Germany in 1911.

The history of the plastic duck stretches from the Mr. Squawker of the 1950s to the Soviet-era duck and Peter Ganine's 1949 patent copy.

More than 3,000 ducks are sold in the store, with museum sales accounting for 70 percent of the business.

However, the tariffs and the decline in visitors from Canada reduced revenue by sixty percent, making the business plan a failure.

Neil and Krystal say that although the decision was difficult, they look forward to reopening the Canadian museum and adding more duck exhibits.

They insist that they love Canada and its people and that moving was better than closing. The new museum promises large, eye-catching exhibits with plastic ducks everywhere.
