The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a serving soldier for allegedly f@king his kidnap in a bid to extort N20 million from his family.

The suspect identified as 38-year-old Samuel Ekezie, a personnel of the 302 Artillery Regiment of the Nigerian Army, Onitsha, was apprehended on the evening of September 15, 2025, and taken into custody.

In a statement released, the command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said the suspect allegedly staged his abduction to obtain money from his relatives.

Tochukwu mentioned that preliminary investigations revealed that on August 15, 2025, Ekezie sent a text message to his family claiming he had been kidnapped and demanding a ransom of N20 million for his release.

It is sad to see a grown man, and a soldier, using deceit to defraud his family. This shows the mental and economic challenges he may have been going through.

We should learn that loyalty to family is the foundation of good relationships. Lack of open communication can lead to such bad decisions. Family is a pillar of support, not a source of suffering.
