Police recover suspected unexploded military ordnance device in Niger State
The Niger State Police Command has successfully recovered a suspected military unexploded ordnance discovered in Mashegu Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, January 6, said that the recovery followed a report received on Monday from the divisional police officer, Ibbi Division, Mashegu.
According to the PPRO, some residents of the community had sighted an object suspected to be a missile in a forest within the area. M
The PPRO said that the police division’s operatives promptly moved to the scene and cordoned off the area to ensure the safety of residents
“Following the report received from DPO Ibbi Division Mashegu LGA on 5th January, 2026 at about 2pm, which indicated that some locals in Zugurma community in Mashegu LGA sighted an object suspected to be a missile in the forest. The Police operatives of the Division moved to the scene and cordoned the area for safety,” the statement read.
"Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, mnips directed the EOD-CBRN unit of the Command to the scene, and on 6th January, 2026 at about 6am, the EOD team led by CSP Mohammed Mamun mobilised to the location, where the Police operatives of the Division and the community members led the team to the scene.
