According to the Manila, Philippines, report, the Manila Police District has ruled out that a bomb caused the explosion near the PNR railroad tracks at the corner of Dagupan Street and Tayuman Street in Tondo, Sunday afternoon.
The report said that Police Lt. Col. Gilbert Cruz, commander of Manila Police District Station 2, said that based on the initial assessment by the EOD personnel and arson investigators from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the explosion was caused by an air compressor.
Initially, four people were reported to have sustained severe injuries from the explosion, which happened around 2:30 p.m. One patient’s arm was cut due to the explosion. Others sustained severe body distortions.
According to Cruz, the people who suffered injuries reportedly found the air compressor and were trying to dismantle it when it exploded.
Jay Dela Fuente, chief of the Manila Social Welfare and Development Office, later confirmed that the number of injured has risen to six. The city government will shoulder all medical expenses of the victims of the explosion.
