Wow! It has become very bad in Mzansi. People no longer want to trust the police, instead they put their trust in security guards rather than the rule of law. It is as if the system is tired, and people know very well that when you are attacked, the guards will arrive faster than the police.
On TV there was a question for viewers: “Who do you trust between the police and the security guards?” The majority chose the guards. This shows that people in suburbs and gated communities have a different mindset than those in the countryside. In the suburbs, every street is gated, there are guards who ask tough questions before they open it for you. It is their way of protecting themselves from crime.
But the police? If you are attacked, the guards arrive with guns, the police arrive after an hour or two. Sometimes they find someone dead, or when they arrive they just give you a case number without investigating. It is as if their job has become just to write names on a piece of paper.
Resident: I remember in 2013 I was attacked, they took my sneakers, my mother's shoes and money. The ADT security guards arrived quickly, the police came later to give me a case number. To this day, no one has ever updated me.
