During his general audience on Wednesday at St. Peter’s Square, the 87-year-old Pope reminded priests to keep their sermons within 10 minutes to prevent churchgoers from falling asleep. “After eight minutes, preaching becomes scattered and difficult to understand,” he stated in an off-the-cuff remark. “Never exceed 10 minutes, ever! This is very important. Priests should focus on the Gospel, not on themselves,” he added, which drew applause from the audience.
The Pope made a similar remark in February 2018, suggesting that an eight-minute sermon is sufficient.
