President Tinubu commiserates with Chimamanda Adichie and family over son's d3ath

President Bola Tinubu has commiserated with multiple award winning Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, over the d3ath of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi.

The 21-month-old baby passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2025 after a brief illness.

The President, in a condolence message issued by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday, January 8, described the loss of a child as the most devastating experience for a parent.

“With a deep sense of grief, I condole with Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, and the entire family on the passing of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi,” the statement read.

"As a parent myself who has suffered the loss of a loved one, no grief is as devastating as losing a child.

The news of the death of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's son is profoundly painful, and President Tinubu's message of condolence reflects the magnitude of that loss. Personally, I believe there is no more devastating experience for a parent than losing a child, and in this case, the tragedy strikes a globally renowned family, but it also serves as a reminder that human suffering knows no bounds of fame or anonymity. What I find important is that, beyond official pronouncements, these kinds of gestures demonstrate empathy and humanity in times of grief. Chimamanda's writing has always conveyed strength and sensitivity, and now she faces a trial that no work can alleviate. Ultimately, solidarity and support are essential, because shared grief becomes a little more bearable. The loss of Nkanu Nnamdi is a wound that deserves respect and compassion.
