To secure Ukraine's security, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy supports the deployment of Western forces. He stated this position as the battle with Russia approaches its third year. During a meeting with Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump at the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, he stated that Ukraine's NATO membership remains a major priority, after expressing the said idea.
President Zelenskyy stated, "A troop contingent from one country or another could be present in Ukraine as long as it is not part of NATO; however, we need to have a clear understanding of when Ukraine will become a member of the EU and when it will join NATO." He also warned that simply joining NATO may not provide guaranteed lasting protection against Russia.
