Merged Mining is a process where two or more different types of crypto are mined at the same time. So miners can use mining computing power to mine on several different blockchains but must have the same algorithm. So when we are going to mine Bitcoin using SHA-256, then all coins that implement SHA256 (eg Namecoin) can be merged mining.
Pros:
Increase security
Get extra rewards
Cons:
More resources used
The power of miners on Bitcoin is large as the parent chain, so on the auxiliary chain it will easily reach more than 51% of the hashing power.
