According to the report, as the US and Russia hold talks on ending the Ukraine war, intelligence from the US and close allies shows that Putin still wants to control all of Ukraine. “We have zero intelligence that Putin is interested in a real peace deal right now,” a US congressional official told NBC News.
The report said that Putin is sending representatives to Saudi Arabia for negotiations with the US that are aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. However, current intelligence shows Putin still believes he can wait out Ukraine and Europe to eventually control all of Ukraine. “He thinks he’s winning,” one of the Western intelligence officials told NBC, adding that losses on the battlefield are not pressuring Putin to stop fighting.
The report is contrary to US President Trump's claims that Putin told him in a phone conversation last week that he wants to end the war in Ukraine. “I think he wants to stop the fighting,” Trump said that Putin told him during their February 12 phone conversation.
It is unfair for Zelensky not to attend the meeting with the USA, Russia, and Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Arabia King is very diplomatic for he does not allow the meeting to proceed without the presence of President Zelensky. What did they expect? Putin will not just give up Ukraine after such long fighting and Ukraine losing because of attrition and heavy losses. Right now the only peace is if Russia takes everything.
