Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has accused Euracare Hospital of medical negligence following the d3ath of her 21-month-old son, Nkanu Nnamdi, who passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026

According to a statement confirmed by her media team to ARISE News, Adichie initially shared the message privately with family and close friends.

Medical negligence caused my son’s d3ath – Chimamanda
She detailed that her son was taken to Euracare Hospital on January 6 for an MRI scan and the insertion of a central line, procedures that required sedation. However, she said Nkanu was not properly monitored after receiving propofol, resulting in complications including unresponsiveness, seizures, and cardiac arrest.

What Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie shared about the loss of her son is deeply moving and prompts a necessary reflection on medical responsibility. For me, the most shocking aspect is that a routine procedure, such as an MRI and the placement of a central line, ended in tragedy due to an alleged lack of adequate monitoring. Personally, I believe this case highlights the importance of strict protocols when using sedatives like propofol, as any oversight can have irreversible consequences. Interestingly, beyond the personal dimension, the denunciation by an internationally recognized figure can open a broader debate about the quality of care in private hospitals. For me, the most important thing is that justice and transparency must prevail, because every patient deserves safety and trust. Ultimately, I believe this incident must not go unanswered.
