Though the smartphone is working after the sim is removed, the local mobile shop claims that the battery is damaged and has to be replaced. The smartphone is almost 3 years old, so is it worth replacing the battery?

At this age, battery wear is normal. Swapping it out can make the phone much more usable for another year or two. The key is the price: if the replacement is reasonable, it’s a good way to avoid buying a new phone right away. But if the phone is slow or outdated in other ways, you might be better off upgrading. Essentially, ask yourself if the battery replacement alone will give you enough value to make it worth the expense.
