A new study has shown that despite long-standing guidelines, many dementia patients are still being prescribed drugs that alter brain function and increase the risk of falls and confusion. Although the rate of prescribing has declined overall, people with cognitive impairment are still more likely to receive them.
Often there was no written medical explanation justifying the use of these drugs. The findings suggest that drug safety remains a sensitive issue in dementia care and requires closer attention.
