Residents have apprehended two suspected POS fraudsters in Makurdi, Benue State.

The incident occurred at Gyado Villa, opposite Peniel College, on Monday, September 29, 2025.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect allegedly attempted to defraud a POS operator with fake alerts.

The suspect was caught by vigilant members of the community and handed over to the police for further investigation.

In a similar incident, another suspected POS fraudster was nabbed at the weekend in Makurdi.

According to social media personality, Zege Okwande, the suspect has been defrauding POS operators with fake transactions.

These types of POS fraud cases are becoming increasingly common, and they are a source of great concern because they directly affect small businesses who depend on these operations for survival. The positive aspect of this situation is that the community acted quickly and in an organized manner to arrest the suspects and hand them over to the police. This reaction demonstrates that when people are vigilant and vigilant, it is more difficult for criminals to succeed. However, it also highlights the need for greater education and prevention.
Many POS operators may not know how to identify a false alert or how to verify in real time whether a transaction was actually successful. It would be very helpful for banks and digital service providers to better train users on how to protect themselves. With more information and collaboration between the community and authorities, these frauds can be significantly reduced.
