Retired police officer says he has received only N1.7m upon retirement after 35 years of service (video)

A retired police officer has lamented over poor remunerations given to him since he retired from active duty in the Nigerian police force .

Retired police officers and other activists on Monday in a protest in Abuja, demanded better welfare and an immediate exit from the contributory pension scheme.

The demonstration, led by the Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers, commenced at the National Assembly Complex and ended at the Force Headquarters.

The retirees condemned the contributory pension scheme, calling it “discriminatory” and “exploitative,” and alleged that many of their colleagues had died without receiving their full retirement benefits.

Very bad, why is that happening? What kind of government giving a poor penson to the police? They must have a good salary, benefits, and pension during their retirement, President Tinubo has a malfunction of his duties and responsibilities being the head of the country, The policemen in my country have huge salaries and pension retirements. They could also receive lump sum money in millions during retirement. What an unfair treatment to the Nigerian retired police.

This is really painful though, most of them are not even paid after retirement, and even during active service the salaries is usually pretty small.
