Romance Crypto Scam

Yesterday on Dec 16, 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) conducted a raid at the Big Leaf Building in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria and arrested 790 suspects involved in the romance crypto scam. The suspects comprised 150 Chinese nationals, 40 Filipinos and the rest from other countries.

During the raid, officers recovered various types of sophisticated computers, SIM cards, mobile phones, these equipment were used to target victims mainly from Europe, North America etc.

These people came all the way from China to get involved in these scams from Nigeria to give the country a bad name.

This is happening because Nigeria tends to give easy access to these foreigners. If they make coming in hard just as they make it hard for we Nigerians to go there. I believe some of these things can be avoided.

How does these romance crypto scams work? Is it the same way they normal romance frauds to those overseas people looking for love desperately?
