According to the report, Russia and Iran will sign a strategic partnership agreement “shortly,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said. The announcement comes as political and military ties between the two countries deepen.
The report said that Lavrov said that the treaty, which is being prepared, will include closer defense cooperation between Moscow and Tehran. The Russian top diplomat made the remarks while addressing the second Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security.
The report added that the Russian president had announced the agreement on October 23 during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart at the BRICS summit in Kazan. Putin, who has called Russian-Iranian ties a “priority” for his country, invited Iranian Masoud Pezeshkian to visit Russia.
