According to the report, two more Russian soldiers made the right decision and surrendered to Ukrainian forces on the Orikhiv-front, Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Their feet are freezing in addition to trench foot. They are hungry and need water. This is the one good decision they have made in their entire lives.

The report stated that large-scale Russian surrenders at the southern Zaporizhia front are not prominent in recent news, which instead describes intense attrition warfare, Ukrainian retreats from some villages to preserve forces, and ongoing Russian assaults pushing forward incrementally, indicating a difficult, grinding battle rather than a sudden collapse or mass surrender of Russian troops.

In addition, while Ukrainian forces have achieved significant local successes, disrupting Russian lines and inflicting heavy losses, the overall situation in late 2025 points to a tough war of attrition with shifting control over villages, not a decisive Russian surrender in the region. Fighting is characterized by heavy artillery, drones, and intense infantry clashes, with significant Russian firepower increasing pressure on Ukrainian lines. Ukrainian commanders have ordered withdrawals from some positions to save personnel from overwhelming Russian assaults, highlighting the difficult conditions.

The surrender of those two Russian soldiers on the Orikhiv front is a small but telling moment in this war. It shows the human side of conflict, where hunger, cold, and exhaustion can push individuals to make choices that go beyond ideology. While large-scale surrenders are not happening, these isolated cases remind us that attrition warfare takes a heavy toll on both sides. The report makes clear that the broader situation remains extremely difficult, with Ukrainian forces facing relentless artillery, drones, and infantry assaults. Withdrawals from certain villages are not signs of collapse but rather tactical moves to preserve lives in the face of overwhelming firepower. For me, the lesson is that this war is grinding and complex, with victories measured in survival and resilience rather than dramatic breakthroughs. Every surrender, every retreat, and every clash reflects the harsh reality of a prolonged struggle.

For me, that was the right decision of the Russian soldiers to surrender to Ukraine rather than die in vain. The war between Ukraine and Russia is too long almost 5 years, and the cause of the war has not yet been settled.
