A friend of mine lives close to a prison and she has been wondering if she starts selling food in the prison premises, if it would work.

What do you think of such a business proposition? Is a prison premises a good place to start a food business? What are challenges to expect?

Selling of food is restricted inside the prison in the Philippines. I do not know in your country. Prisoners here are free of food and money is not allowed inside so how could they pay? Only immediate relatives are allowed to visit to bring food but on strict compliance and scrutiny.

I do not think it works in my city. Selling of foods or other items are prohibited in a prison.
That is right and those who would sell food in the prison cell might be convicted of conspiracy and they may be put to risk. It is not allowed in the Philippines to protect the prisoners. It happened here in the Bilibid prison a prisoner was killed by a visitor pretending to be a relative but he was a hired killer. He killed the prisoner using a silencer pistol.

I don't think she would be allowed to sell within, but outside the prison. In this case if it's not a busy location, it might not be that lucrative cause your only customers would be the officers there.

Prisoners are free of food inside the jail. No one can sell food there. It is restricted in my country. Only the family or relatives can visit and bring food but under strict supervision by the police on duty, the jail guard.

I am even not sure whether that one can really work in my country. That is because most of the prisons are locked and not allowed to get out for purchases of any kind.
Same here in my country so I'm sceptical about it working here too in my country unless it is for the Prison's staff

It is very impossible to sell food in jail. It is not a commercial area, so security measures are a must to observe. Anyway, it is a case to case, it might be allowed in some countries but in the Philippines, it is not allowed.

Starting a food business near prison might work. However, there are several challenges. One major challenge is security concerns.
Yes it would work as the people around would patronise you but it is good to apply caution and keep safe to avoid losses
