Most companies have multiple lines of business. Consequently, another company that is a competitor in one area is quite possible NOT a competitor in another. In your non-competing areas, it may make good sense to do some business together. Your choice is this: Since the pseudo-competitor will be doing business with someone, and that someone will be making some profit, do you want to make that profit or just allow someone else to pocket the money?

A company that feels like a rival in one corner of the market might be a helpful partner in a different corner. There is no rule saying you cannot work together where your goals match. If another firm will profit from that gap, you have every reason to take the chance yourself. Smart business often means knowing when to compete and when to collaborate.
