Nowadays, companies have sites that are extension of their services. These sites are probably monetized already through the services that users get to pay for.

Can we get additional revenue for company sites by monetizing with ad networks? Is it a proper thing to use ad networks on company sites?

No, a company website should sell its own services and products, instead of running ads to make it cluttered
I have seen websites of colleges being monetized with Ad sense but at very minimal level. The Google ads are just showing in one or two places on the site. I think that is okay.

Monitizing your site with ads is a great way to boost your income. But careful not to makenit tooo clustered. When it's too clustered it becomes a demorolizer. Monitized smart. You can use Google ads. It has been around for a long time. But make sure you understand how it works. I have come across instances where Google ads has banned sites from using thier services.

I don't think ads are the way to go for company websites. Users are coming to your site for your services, not to be bombarded with ads. That just ruins the experience and distracts from what you're trying to provide. Focus on building a strong, valuable product or service - the money will follow.
