Should ROM drives be permanently removed from PCs?

ROM drives in PCs were used to read contents of Compact Discs. They were used to transfer software, play music and access other kinds of data on a PC? Seems the USB drives have taken over and ROM drives are no more useful.

Should the ROM drives be removed from PCs completely?

I hardly ever use that CD ROM. All software that I want to install are gotten from online or USB. But it should still be there nonetheless.
