This is not called pride but self respect. We had to go through tremendous financial stress during my husband's illness but never asked for anyone's help. Nowadays people help you financially with a motive.

Pride is quite destructive and should be avoided. But there is difference between pride and integrity. Pride is when you have developed negative impresson of yourself. While integrity is when you want protect your personal rights. Pride is not the same thing as integrity.
