Spending money for the person you are in a relationship with. Sensible or Wasteful?

When the spending is symbiotic, it is nothing much to do. But when one person is parasitic, it is very difficult to keep spending for the person you are romantically involved with.

Well, if a boyfriend or girlfriend is parasitic, not that big deal to get romantically involved with...

As I was leaving my house today, my neighbor was berating her younger sister and almost beating her. The young lady had spent $500 to buy her boyfriend a phone. Do you think it is wasteful to spend money on a person that you are dating and you are not married to?

I wonder if their relationship is worthy such an expense. If the boyfriend is serious about that relationship. 500 dollars are huge money in your country...
