According to the report, Syrian rebels have claimed full control of Hama, the fourth major city in Syria, after government forces withdrew in a significant blow to President Bashar al-Assad.

The report said that the leader of the Islamist militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Abu Mohammed al-Jawlani, proclaimed "victory" in Hama and vowed there would be "no revenge." HTS fighters and their allies had earlier seized Hama Central Prison, freeing prisoners after intense fighting.

The report added that the rebel commander warned residents of Homs, located in western Syria, that "your time has come," prompting many to flee the area in fear of a potential rebel assault.

Meanwhile, the Syrian military reported redeploying its forces outside the city. Syrian Defence Minister Ali Mahmoud Abbas said the loss of Hama to the rebels was "temporary."
