According to the report, Ahmed al-Sharaa, Syria’s new leader, announced plans to bring all weapons under state control, including those held by Kurdish forces. Speaking at a press conference alongside Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Damascus, Sharaa outlined his vision for restructuring the Syrian military and dissolving armed factions into the state army.

The report said that he emphasized that uncontrolled weapons lead to instability, calling for national unity and coexistence. Fidan echoed the sentiment, urging the disbandment of Kurdish militias, which Ankara sees as a threat. He also expressed confidence in US president-elect Donald Trump reassessing America’s support for the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces.

The report added that both leaders urged the international community to lift sanctions on Syria to aid reconstruction efforts, with Turkey pledging support for rebuilding.

Syria needs help. I understand how the Syrians suffered during the leadership of Assad. Will Syria be willing to become a democracy, with its own people charting their nation's future? Or will it be just a change to another autocratic regime?
