The "About Us" Page is Not What You Think

I need to rant about something. Everyone's "About Us" page is so... boring. It's always "Founded in 1992, we are committed to excellence." Blah, blah, blah. I just scroll right past it. Don't you? People don't connect with dates and corporate words. They connect with people. With stories. With the "why."

Think about your favorite small shop or cafe. You love it because of the owner's smile, or the story of how they started. Your website needs that heart! Tell me why you started this. What problem were you trying to solve? Maybe you were frustrated too, and that's why you built this. That makes me root for you! It makes me feel like I know you. This page can be your secret weapon to turn a visitor into a friend. Please, stop being so formal. Just talk to me. I promise I'll listen.

That page is often treated like an obligation instead of an opportunity. Visitors aren’t looking for a timeline. They’re looking for a human reason to care. A simple story beats corporate language every time. When people understand your motivation, they’re more likely to stay, explore, and root for what you’re building.

Yes, exactly. That page is such a wasted chance sometimes. People just want to feel your heartbeat, you know? Not read a boring list of facts. Give me that simple, human story. Tell me why you care. If I feel that, I’ll stay. I’ll want to see you win. That connection is everything.
