The Trump administration has begun laying off thousands of federal workers in an effort to pressure Democrats amid the ongoing government shutdown down due to the inability of Congress to reach a funding deal.

"The RIFs have begun," White House Office of Management Director Russell Vought announced in a post on X , referring to an acronym for "reductions in force".

A spokesman for his office confirmed the cuts had started and were "substantial". Their size and scope began coming into focus later on Friday, when the administration disclosed seven agencies had started laying off more than 4,000 workers.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to use the shutdown to further his long-held goal of reducing the federal workforce.

Honestly, this move by the Trump administration feels like a double-edged sword. On one hand, I understand the idea of wanting to make the government more efficient and reduce unnecessary spending, but using layoffs as a political weapon during a shutdown seems extremely unfair to the workers involved. These are real people with families and bills, not just numbers on a report. Forcing thousands out of their jobs to pressure Democrats into a deal creates more instability and frustration in an already divided country. If the goal is to make the system leaner, there should be a transparent and strategic plan, not mass layoffs driven by political tension. Moves like this might save money short term, but they damage morale and public trust in government. In the end, it’s the everyday workers who suffer while political leaders continue their standoff without feeling the same consequences.

The Trump administration has begun firing many public officials. This is a strategy to pressure its opponents. Because Congress has failed to agree on a budget, the situation is chaotic. Four thousand people have lost their jobs in seven key departments. Trump is using this opportunity to fulfill his dream of reducing government employees. But do not be afraid because God does not abandon his people. This situation is like a butterfly blowing on a wound. All those who are being hurt, I ask you to be patient. Patience is the key. Justice will be done one day for those who are being wronged. God will protect you and give you the strength to face these challenges.
