The Vatican reports that the Pope's pneumonia is improving

The Vatican reported a slight improvement in the Pope's condition on Wednesday, although his prognosis for pneumonia in both lungs remains guarded. While the Pope continues respiratory exercises and supplemental oxygen, the Vatican reports that his weekend respiratory crisis, necessitating transfusions and high-flow oxygen, has not reappeared. The Vatican reported Wednesday that a Tuesday CT scan showed the Pope's lung inflammation was improving, a fact confirmed by Wednesday's blood tests. They also stated that a minor kidney problem identified at the weekend had resolved itself. Even though he is critically ill, the Vatican says the head of the world's roughly 1.4 billion Catholics has remained involved in Church affairs from his hospital room.
