There is need for me to upgrade the smartphone

I tried to upgrade my SIM to e sim card but l was notified by the service provider that my device is not legible for that service unless l upgrade to better smartphone. When do you actually make upgrade to your devices?

I think it depends, most people just upgrade when a new phone comes out. For me, there are some apps i would love to use that I can't with my current phone.
