According to the report, a Georgia man has been sentenced to three life terms for the 2021 murders of a couple found dead in their Acworth home with their 2-year-old son beside them.
Matthew Scott Lanz, a neighbor of Justin and Amber Hicks, was convicted on multiple charges, including two counts of malice murder and four counts of felony murder. Prosecutors said the child was discovered unharmed but covered in blood as he cuddled next to his parents’ bodies, per Atlanta News First.
The report added that during the trial, Lanz, who was 22 at the time, claimed he had seen demonic lights in the Hicks’ home, though investigators were unable to establish a motive. His brother, Austin Lanz, had previously broken into the same residence and later died by suicide after fatally stabbing a police officer earlier in 2021.
In addition to the report, authorities say Matthew Scott Lanz entered the couple's home through a rear door and fatally shot them. Despite arguments from Lanz’s defense that no trace evidence tied him directly to the scene, a judge ordered him to serve the life sentences consecutively, including two without the possibility of parole.
