Next Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump will meet in Alaska to talk about the future of the conflict in Ukraine. Trump used social media to promote the August 15 meeting, and a Kremlin spokeswoman later confirmed it, stating that the venue was "quite logical" considering Alaska's close proximity to Russia.
Trump was invited to Russia for a possible second summit, a spokesperson said. Ukraine has not responded immediately.
The meeting was announced just hours after Trump said that Ukraine could have to give up territory to put an end to the conflict, which started when Russia invaded its neighbor in February 2022.
