As he pledged to combat crime in the city, US President Donald Trump claimed that homeless people must "move out" of Washington, DC. However, the mayor retaliated against the White House by comparing the capital to Baghdad.
He wrote, "We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital," in a Sunday post. The Republican president also indicated at his plan to make the city "safer and more beautiful than it ever was before" at a press briefing scheduled for Monday.
According to Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser, "We are not experiencing a crime spike." Last week, Trump ordered federal law police to enter the streets of Washington, DC, and he signed an order last month that made it easier to arrest homeless people.
