According to the report, amid a tariff tussle, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Sergio Gor, the nominee for US Ambassador to India, highlighted the strong ties between Washington and New Delhi. Rubio described India as "one of America’s top partnerships." Gor added, "Despite a little hiccup on tariffs, our relationship with India is much stronger; it's built on many more decades." He also noted that the president remains committed to sustained engagement with the Quad, hinting at a possible visit to India later this year for the summit. These statements come after US President Donald Trump imposed 50% tariffs on India, accusing it of indirectly funding the Russia-Ukraine war.
Once Trump and Modi meet in person, I am very sure that the tariff for India would drop drastically to 30%. When Ph President Marcos visited President Trump in the White House to negotiate the tariff, US President Trump dropped the Philippines' tarrif to 19%.
