United States congratulates Philippines for ‘eloquently’ expressing South China Sea position

The United States congratulated the Philippines for “eloquently laying out the Philippines’ position on the South China Sea (SCS).”

Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin III met on the sidelines of the 21st International Institute for Strategic Studies Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Saturday, to update each other on the progress made by both countries since the recent SQUAD meeting in Hawaii.

The “SQUAD” is the quadrilateral alliance among the US, Japan, Australia, and the Philippines, which had a series of meetings in Hawaii with Austin last month. The four countries held marine military drills in April.

During that summit meeting in Singapore, President Marcos discussed the position of the Ph West Sea as being claimed by China as within their territorial boundary which was opposed and elaborated well by President Marcos.

China built an island near the West Philippine Sea and disallowed Filipinos to fish there. That sea is rich of different fishes and clams for export. China claimed it as part of their territory but it's 1000 miles away from China, ours in Philippines only 100 meters away. It's our territorial rights. Then they built buildings there in the island they claimed theirs. It's a long story mate.

China knows what they would gain if they take procession of this place that is so rich with resources. Which is why they are fighting hard to get it.

You're so right, Spratly island in the West Philippine Sea is so abundant of different fishes and clams.

Phillipines government should be careful when dealing with China. Phillipines government should not take United States government statement as a sign that they will come to their aid when the conflict starts. All these super powers talk with both side of their mouth.

The US government never failed their promises to the Filipinos There are 18 US Bases in the Philippines. My country became independent from the hands of the tyrants for 400 years because of the United States of America which is why Filipinos are called Brown Americans. July 4 is PHILIPPINES-AMERICAN FRIENDSHIP DAY. '

Don't expect United States to fight your battles. Check what is happening in Ukraine and know that their help will be highly limited when it will start happening. China is militarily well equipped to fight Phillipines for next fifty years! But i doubt if United States will continue to help for that long. Know that these super powers use the poor countries for their selfish interests.
