US Based Naija Woman Faces Murder Charge After Her 9-Year-Old Dies In Hot Car
Nigerian born Gbemisola G. Akayinode, a 36-year-old Houston-area mother, was charged with felony murder after her 9-year-old daughter, Oluwasikemi Akayinode, died from hyperthermia on July 1, 2025.

She allegedly left her daughter inside a Toyota Camry parked at a Galena Park manufacturing plant while she worked an eight-hour shift starting at 6 a.m.

The child was reportedly left with water, food, a fan, ice cubes, and melatonin to help her sleep. The windows were cracked, and a shade was placed in the front windshield, making it hard for passersby to see inside.

Around 2 p.m, she returned to the car and found Oluwasikemi unresponsive. CPR was attempted but it failed and the child was rushed to a Hospital, where she was pronounced dead..

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences ruled the death as a homicide due to hyperthermia.

She was arrested on October 17, 2025, and booked into the Harris County

What a sad and heartbreaking story, love. I can't imagine the pain and confusion behind a situation like this. On one hand, it's evident that the mother took minimal measures to try to care for her daughter—leaving her water, food, and a fan—but on the other hand, leaving a child in a car for eight hours, especially in the Texas heat, is a tragedy waiting to happen. In my opinion, this case reflects not only a lack of judgment, but also the weight of desperation many people face when trying to balance work and motherhood without support. It's easy to judge from the outside, but it makes me feel so sad to think about how precariousness can lead to fatal decisions. Hopefully, this tragedy will raise awareness about the importance of more humane workplace policies for working parents.

What a cruel mother, she just left her child throughout the period of her work. Why didn't she bring her child at her workplace, or see her after some hours? Her car might not be air-conditioned. She's a useless mother. She doesn't deserve to become s mother. She will stay behind bars until she grows old because of her homicide case.
