Steve Witkoff, the United States’ special envoy, and Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, have arrived in Egypt to participate in the ongoing Gaza negotiations. Their arrival coincides with the third day of talks, according to a report from Axios on Wednesday morning.

Recent days have seen indirect discussions between Israel and Hamas focused on finding a resolution to the ongoing conflict. The involvement of Witkoff and Kushner is viewed as significant, as both the United States and Israel have indicated that the negotiations are entering a particularly crucial phase with their participation.

The talks are taking place in Sharm el-Sheikh, a resort city in Egypt. This round of negotiations follows the presentation of a 20-point plan by President Trump during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.

The involvement of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in the Gaza negotiations definitely adds an interesting layer to the situation. Both have strong ties to U.S. and Israeli leadership, which could influence the direction and tone of the talks. The fact that these discussions are happening in Egypt, a long-time mediator in Middle Eastern conflicts, suggests that there’s a genuine attempt to reach some form of resolution, even if only a temporary one. However, history shows that peace in this region is incredibly fragile, often affected by deep political and ideological divisions. The 20-point plan mentioned sounds ambitious, but its success will depend heavily on whether both Israel and Hamas are willing to compromise. At this stage, any progress, even a minor one, would be a positive sign. Hopefully, this round of talks leads to something more than symbolic gestures and moves closer to lasting stability in the region.
