According to the report, at least eight C-17A Globemaster III military transport aircraft and five HH-60W Black Hawk helicopters have arrived at a British airbase. The tanker, which the US has been unsuccessfully pursuing since December 24 of last year, is currently under constant surveillance by Navy Boeing P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft west of Ireland. Russian analysts, in turn, note that ships from the Northern and Baltic Fleets could have protected the tanker from the American special forces landing. However, this would require a corresponding order.
The report stated that the US forces are planning to intercept a sanctioned Russian-flagged oil tanker tied to the Venezuelan oil trade. The news comes just two days after the U.S. carried out a large-scale attack on Venezuela, with the stated goals of effecting regime change and seizing control of the country's oil reserves. The ship in question, formerly named Bella 1, is known for its involvement in the Iranian and Venezuelan crude oil trade. The ship avoided a U.S. blockade of sanctioned oil tankers while en route to Venezuela on Dec. 20, refusing to let the U.S. Coast Guard board the ship. The refusal to board the sanctioned ship ultimately led to the U.S. pursuit of the vessel in the Atlantic Ocean.
Additionally, on December 31, 2025, Russia sent an official diplomatic note to the United States demanding an immediate end to the illegal pursuit of the vessel. However, the Americans' recent actions convincingly demonstrate that they are prepared to disregard international law to achieve their goals. Reports of the planned interception come amid increasingly tense relations between Washington and Moscow, as the U.S. continues to broker a peace deal in Ukraine.
