What are the factors determining success in staking?

Like for example, what factors do you put in place for you to achieve success in the cryptocurrency staking means of investment?

Some factors that I always consider before staking crypto are liquidity risk, market fluctuations and security, besides that we also have to choose coins that are already popular rather than the amount of yield.

I have very little idea about how staking works or even crypto in general, this is why I have not done it myself.
