Impulse buying is the spontaneous urge to shop without consideration or planning. Impulse buying is based on emotion, impulse, and lacks logic, often occurring suddenly, such as during promotions or special events. Of course, impulsive buying will worsen if allowed to continue for a long time.

Impulsive buyers often purchase items/products they don't need or already own, which is simply an unconscious wasteful act. This often disrupts their financial situation, leads to overbudget, regret, stress, and often leads to problems in social relationships.

To quickly address impulsive buying, we must understand the causes of impulsive buying. Can you explain the causes of impulsive buying?

There may be difference causes. Some people buy when they are feeling down. Some cannot control themselves when they see a great deal though the items are not really what they need. People with excessive impulsive buying behavior needs to seek professional help.

I have experienced this during the pandemic when an announcement was made about the total lockdown. People rushed to different stores. I bought 3 sacks of rice, canned goods, boxes of milk, kilos of meat, nuts, and beans, and more.

Impulsive buying if there's a news about a long drought, successive storms, one week transport strike or sudden pandemic like corona virus. Panic buying because of these happenings is inevitable.
There are times when things change suddenly, such as a long-term drought or a transport strike. People get scared and start buying things without a plan. This is completely normal and does not mean that a person is stupid, but rather a feeling of wanting to protect themselves.

But if we remember that fear comes and goes, we can learn to plan ahead for emergencies. Instead of buying a lot of things in a hurry, it is better to prepare in advance. This helps to avoid congestion and unnecessary losses.

When you find yourself wanting to buy everything, please take a break. Ask yourself if you really need it or is it fear that is leading you. Many people buy things that they do not use at all. Let's be confident and remain calm even in times of challenge.
