Businesses always value loyal customers and always give them some preferential treatment. Not to keep it vague. What is the scope of the attributes that makes a customer to be classified as a "loyal customer"?

Is it number of patronage, timeframe of patronage or any other factor that makes a customer to be regarded as loyal?
 
For me, a loyal customer is one who can easily refer me to others, respects my rules and regulations and sees my business as their first option not the last.
